Copiapoa algarrobensis spec. nuova, a captivating cactus, displays a solitary growth habit with a dark, almost black epidermis, hence its name ‘nox‘ meaning ‘night’ in Latin. This slow-growing species develops a globular stem, reaching up to 15 cm in diameter, adorned with prominent, rounded ribs. The areoles are woolly and bear short, black spines. During spring, Copiapoa algarrobensis spec. nuova produces stunning, yellow flowers that contrast beautifully with its dark body, adding to its allure.
