Philodendron rubrijuvenile, commonly known as ‘El Choco Red,’ is a stunning species admired for its striking bright red cataphylls and leaf undersides. With dark, velvety, heart-shaped leaves, it closely resembles Philodendron luxurians, but its unique coloration sets it apart. Native to the tropical rainforests of Ecuador, this plant brings a touch of exotic beauty to any indoor plant collection.

Native to: Philodendron rubrijuvenile is native to Ecuador, where it thrives in the humid, shaded environments of tropical rainforests.

Growth Habit: Philodendron rubrijuvenile has a scrambling growth habit, meaning it tends to spread horizontally or climb with support. Providing a moss pole or trellis can help guide its growth and showcase its beautiful foliage.

Water: Water your Philodendron rubrijuvenile when the top 3 cm of substrate is dry. It’s important to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Using a well-draining potting mix will help prevent root rot and support healthy growth.

Light: This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can damage its delicate leaves, so its best to place it near a window with filtered light or in a well-lit room where it can receive indirect sunlight throughout the day.

Humidity: High humidity levels between 60% and 80% are ideal for Philodendron rubrijuvenile. While it can grow outside of a terrarium or cabinet, enhancing humidity by grouping plants together or placing it in a humid room like a bathroom or kitchen will help it thrive and maintain its vibrant colors.

Temperature: Maintain a stable temperature range of 18C to 26C for optimal growth. This Philodendron is sensitive to cold and drafts, so keep it away from windows or doors where it might be exposed to sudden temperature changes.
