Monstera dissecta

Monstera dissecta is a dramatic climbing aroid beloved by collectors for its deeply cut, skeleton-like mature leaves. Juvenile foliage starts out heart-shaped and entire, but as the plant matures on a moss pole or tall support, leaves develop ever more elaborate fenestrations that extend almost all the way to the midrib, giving the plant its ribcage-like silhouette. Vigorous once established, Monstera dissecta is a fantastic statement plant for a bright, humid room, plant cabinet, or feature wall where its mature foliage can be shown off to best effect.

Origins
Monstera dissecta has a wide natural range across the tropics of the Americas, from southern Mexico through Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama, and on into Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and parts of northern Brazil. It grows as a hemi-epiphyte, climbing tree trunks in warm, shaded, consistently humid understorey conditions.

Soil and Substrate
As a climbing rainforest aroid, Monstera dissecta needs a chunky, airy substrate that mimics the decaying bark and leaf litter of its native forests. Our Monstera and Philodendron Potting Mix suits it perfectly.
